What Do We Call Ourselves?

Names are important to any business. They can act as our verbal calling card. When someone asks, “what do you do?” we voice over “folks” seem to have several names. Voice Over Actor, Voice Over Talent, Voice Over Artist. I was talking with everyone at Voicebank.net recently about titles. They said most voice over clients they talk to prefer Voice Talent and NOT Voice Actor. They don’t consider themselves “Actors.” But we are actors among other things. To be good in this business, you have to be an actor! Whether it’s acting like you love a product or acting like the expert in a documentary, it is acting. But we’re also “talent” and “artists.” Maybe the answer is an acronym. How about we call ourselves VATA? Voice Actors with Talent who are Artists? By the way, Bob Souer calls himself, “Storyteller.”  Voice people! What do you call yourself?
