March 17th, 2008 Posted in General InfoI have had the pleasure and privilege of being a guest speaker at many of Joan Baker’s seminar’s. “Making Millions With Your Voice” is one of the Learning Annex’s most popular and well attended events. Joan is a strong supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association and is a regular and generous contributor to the organization. Below is information for a wonderful event in NY to help raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. For the past 3 years, author Secrets of Voice-Over Success Joan Baker has guided the voice-over industry to get behind a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. This year she adds to these unseen and unsung champions a list of top Broadway and Pop stars who will join her. For the first time Joan brings the titanic’s of the Voice-Over World and the Broadway World together in perfect harmony to fight Alzheimer’s, including surprise celebrity guests that will be popping in to meet and greet guests-
So on April 28, 2008 Joan, the Alzheimer’s Association and in partnership with the organization Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids will present “Voices Remember” — a star-studded charity event in support of a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The evening will be an intimate musical cabaret and schmooze fest among New York socialites.
Featured will be some of the nation’s top voice-over actors from Joan Baker’s book Secrets of Voice-Over Success: Don LaFontaine (that movie trailer guy!) Valerie Smaldone ( Voice: Broadway on Broadway, NY Emmy’s) Sylvia Villagran( promos TBS), Les Marshak( Oscars, Tony’s) Steve Zirnkilton ( Law& Order) Cedering Fox (EPT, People’s Choice)and Rodd Houston ( Verizon Wireless) and a cadre of Broadway and record industry celebrities, including the legendary vocalist Phoebe Snow, from the original cast of Rent Daphne Rubin Vega, Emmy nominated actress and singer Bobbie Eakes (ABC’s All My Children) and singing sensation Norm Lewis (Disney’s The Little Mermaid) and many more.
“In a very uniquely staged show of support, performers whose careers and livelihood depend on their vocal talent will honor and remember those who have lost their voices to Alzheimer’s disease,” says Joan Baker who organized this opportunity in her continuing efforts to fight Alzheimer’s after her father succumbed to the disease in 2003. The event will be held on Central Park South at the extraordinary residence of Ron Pobuda, the president and founder of National Audio Video Inc, and an award winning producer/director with over 35 years of broadcasting experience and video programming.
Co-sponsoring the event is New York-based advertising agency, Push Creative, Inc., a company specializing in brand strategy and graphic design for clients like Lexus, American Express, Spike TV and Fox News Channel. Push Creative CEO Rudy Gaskins points out, “Alzheimer’s is among the most debilitating and feared diseases of our time. We are thrilled to support the artists who are so generously donating their time.”
All evenings proceeds benefit The Alzheimer’s Association.
