Famous Names (and Voices) and Video Games

February 1st, 2008 Posted in General Info

Seems the famous actors that are taking a chunk of voice over work (and a chunk of change) in commercials and movies are also taking a bite out of the video game world. Check out Stephany’s blog posting in Gaming Today, “Actors Get Fat Paychecks for Video Game Voice Work.” She writes, “While we are all aware that actors lend their voices to video games, some of us might be unaware they make a decent living out of it. It has been mentioned that one actor claimed half a million just for lending their voice to a game.” Although it is much more than just “lending their voice to a game” I do wish they’d lend their voices elsewhere, so we voice actors can do a little more of our own lending!

I’m not trying to make excuses for anyone, especially the recipient of the $500,000 paycheck, but couldn’t this inturn raise base rates for us in the video game industry? Although, that might not do to much as there is less work…

    Hi Russ-
It would be nice. But the celebrities aren’t connected to the base rates. They’re so off the chart simply because they have a name. We have to raise our own rates if we can and set our own higher standards.
