4 Tips on Getting into Voice Over for Games
February 27th, 2008 Posted in Finding Work, General Info, MarketingI found an article on the Gamertell website. In it, voice actor David Sobolov gives some tips on getting voice over gigs for video games. In addition to Gamertell, check out Gamasutra and GameCareerGuide on breaking into this field.
1. Produce a character demo and get an agent
2. Be willing to do any kind of voice work to get your feet wet.
3. Develop the ability to do lots of characters quickly.
4. Be ready to work with little preparation. Often with games the voice actor doesn’t get the script until they walk in the door.

Sobolov is kinda crazy, but really cool. He and David Pizzuto have been working really hard on getting more visibility and better pay for video game vo actors. Gamezombie interviewed him a while back too:

It’s really frustrating how little respect there can be for game vo. Especially as it’s some of the most physically demanding performance you can do:

Hopefully that will change soon (hello? SAG negotiations)?
